I grew up as a pastor’s kid. I remember often going down to the sanctuary, just down the hill from our parsonage, and spending time alone there. Even from a young age, I found a peace in God’s house that I couldn’t find elsewhere.
Today, as I sit alone in our sanctuary here at Peerless Church, I’m reminded of those days in my youth. And of the countless moments over my lifetime when I have found the sweet, peaceful presence of God while seeking Him in His house. I understand the words of David:
“How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God….
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”
Psalms 84:1-2, 10 (NIV)
